Madii Lii at Paddle for the Peace

This week a delegation from Madii Lii visited Treaty 8 territory for the Paddle for the Peace. Our delegation learned about the proposed Site C dam and the impacts it is having on Treaty 8 communities.

The Site C dam will electrify the Montney basin. The Montney Basin fracked gas fields will feed the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission Pipeline to the Pacific Northwest LNG terminal site on Lelu Island. Stopping the Site C dam will create a whole new batch of problems in the LNG world. What happens over a thousand kilometres away will have an impact on us.

We attended Paddle for the peace to show solidarity. Also, to develop relationships with other indigenous groups to start talking about Climate Change. Unity on Climate Change is imperative.
