TITLE CASE meeting summary with lawyer Louise Mandell
It was a packed house today for the Title Case meeting at Gitanmaax Hall. Representatives from multiple nations were in attendance to learn how Gitxsan people, and our neighbouring nations, are in an excellent position to launch a full title case that would put all current and future pipeline proposals to rest. As lawyer Louise Mandell said, "the colonial model of gorging at the buffet of individualism is coming to an end". Thanks to the Delgamuuk'w lawyers for speaking at this event.
A working group has been set up to pursue advice on pursuing a gap-analysis for the Gitxsan and Wet'suwet'en as a first step to launching a Title case.
"Louise Mandell was absolutely clear on one fact; the BC Government along with the BC Treaty Commission (BCTC) are performing actions which are illegal. Some of the negotiations presently underway, along with the permits being issued to development and resource projects, breech clearly defined Canadian Law."
